REVIEW OF DREAM BOUND BY KATE DOUGLAS

DREAM BOUND by Kate Douglas

In this erotic romance story, extreme, hot, sexual fantasizing is used as an energy source to attempt to save an alien race of people, the Nyrians, from a lifetime of imprisonment and at the same time save Earth from being stripped of all its resources and left as a dead rock floating in the universe.

In the first story in this series (Dream Catcher in the NightShift anthology) , Mac Dugan met Zianne, a time-traveling alien from a spaceship in orbit near Earth 20 years in the future, and fell in love with her.

Together they formulated a plan to save her people, the Nyrians from slavery and at the same time, save the Earth from alien invasion and certain death. The Gar are a cruel race of aliens, keeping the Nyrians as prisoners to power their star cruiser. When they are near a planet with abundant natural resources, the Gar attack the planet, strip the resources and store them in the ship for their own uses, leaving the planet dead.

Mac, a computer engineer has spent the last 20 years building a huge satellite array capable of sending energy as well as identifying energy pulses coming from outer space. Now Mac is taking his team of 6 people to the array to begin trying to communicate with the Nyrians. The team all have extrasensory perceptions/abilities and the capability of mental telepathy, as well as admitting to extreme sexual fantasies and open sexual lifestyles.

This story is rich with sexual fantasies using mind games the 6 humans play with each other, the actual physical sexual interactions between the humans, and also with the Nyrians, when they are able to come to Earth in human form. All this sexual energy being created is intended to be used to rescue the Nyrians and their soulstones from the alien ship.

Add in basic human nature which fears the unknown, a government unwilling to believe such outlandish ideas such as an alien ship hiding behind the moon about to attack the Earth, and the Media, who would love a story to end all stories, and this novel of the first known aliens coming to Earth comes to life.

This was a very enjoyable read, with some suspense within the story, and of course, lots of sexual tension. The characters were believable, even the aliens came to life on the pages of this book. Lots and lots of hot, steamy sex with emotional connections coming together, and this book kept me sucked in until the very end. This is Part 2 of a series, and the conclusion was perfectly timed to lead into the last book, which will be out later in the year.

    • Goddam Pat how the hell do you comment so fast? Your reviews are next so send me as many as you have if you haven’t already

      • It appears in my e-mail……magic!
I think I sent you all I have for the moment. I’m about to start Salena’s book. Then will send that to you…..

    • Thanks WP, I need all the positive strokes right now, cuz I’m new at this and not really sure about it. It is so cool though to have someone actually interested in my opinion :!:

      • For a newbie–even a regular reviewer, ya done good. Gave a great synopsis w/o giving away any of the surprises (I HATE plot spoilers) and gave your opinion in clear and very readable writing. I’ll add a link to my website, but thank you SO much!

          • You, my friend, I want to come to the islands and meet you (oh, how I wish!) (maybe you’ll come to the 9th island. do you know where that is? thats where I live)
            Thanks!!

        • **Sniff*, that is so nice of you to say **sniff*. I appreciate it. I hate to fish for compliments, but I really don’t know what I’m doing. To me, the review feels stilted and awkward. So thanks for letting me know its up to par :)

          • I might very well come there. :-) We islanders go there a lot. Lol!

You did wonderfully. No, to stilted and awkward. just the right amount of info to make people curious enough to pick up the book and take a look inside. :-) We leave it up to Kate’s prose to do the rest. Take a bow and accept the accolades. ((Hugs))

  1. Great review LG.
I so need to win the lottery so I can stay home and catch up on all the books and series’ I’m behind on.
Now that my husband is back on second shift I can read more.

      • I know. He was like, “what are you doing?” “want to a movie?” For the last 6months he has driving me crazy. For 28yrs we mostly have worked opposite shifts, so when we are on the same schedule he interferes in my time. Although I will miss coming home to dinner hot and ready for me. I will now have to reheat it. That to me is a good trade off.

    • Pat – Did you mean this comment to post to this Alix? I wish it were true, what book did you see? Thank you so much for the shout out though :)

Thanks Luci and Sheri! I will let you guys know if I every get the thing published. I am taking a final read through and then I will see what happens out in the big scary world ;)

      • Good luck Alix! It’s definitely scary! I’m at that stage myself. I don’t know if this interests you at all but, Angela James from Carina press, does an amazing course called, before you hit send. I got a lot from it, she touches on pretty much everything to do with tightening up and editing your MS before you submit. The next one starts in August if your interested, if not, just ignore me lol ;)

    • thanks Toni. I talked to a woman at Kensington who sent me 2 other books to review, after I posted my reviews, she told me she has preapproved me for Kensington ARCs on netgalley. Is that common? or should I feel special – I really feel quite special about that!

  2. LG, what a great review! You nailed it. Gave us just enough to whet our appetites without any spoilers. We just have to read that book right now!

    • I refuse to give spoilers. I hate those when I’m reading and I would never do it to anyone else :!:
      very important.

      • I know all authors appreciate it when spoilers are not given away. As a read as well, I appreciate it. I try to stay away from Amazon until I’ve read the book, because sometimes those people just give away too much.

Good job on the review, Lady G.

    • I so wish everyone would read this! Kate is such a great story teller! Its almost not a paranormal, since its about an alien race of people who don’t live on Earth. Just trying to escape a bad situation and are kind of like refugees for Earth. But it has really hot sex scenes, sometimes it will make you laugh til you spew your coffee! Just sayin’.

      • Will check it out but i am anal a out reading in order. This is the second book in the series you said right? What’s the title of the first?

  3. Great review LG. I love Kate Douglas’ writings. I just need to pick this one up and read it. The into was really good. Kate really get a lot out of her “close encounter” scenes. I need to read her with a fan and gladd of ice tea.

  4. Dang, I gotta learn how to utilize these tools! I think I tried to post a comment to Lady G’s review on RM’s main page… Oh well.
Great review, Lady G. Thank you! Can’t wait to read it.

  5. Congrats, Kate on a great review. Lady G, well written. Loved the way you synopsized the book without giving away any of the spoilers.

Another book on my TBR list, which keeps growing, but that’s okay, I read fast. I just write slow. LOL

  6. I’m playing “Catch up” tonight. Just got to our daughter’s house where I’m “puppy sitting” while she and her hubby take the kids to a really cool place called Safari West. They’ll stay in a cabin tonight and hear lions and tigers and all sorts of critters that make cool noises at night. And yes, I AM jealous!

But, I’m absolutely tickled to hear how many of you plan to read Dream Bound. I really hope you like the book–I’m reading through Dream Unchained tonight, proofing the final galleys before it’s ready to go through production, and it’s really exciting with a lot of action ALONG with all the sex! LOL…I just can’t seem to write w/o making it hot.

Must get back to work, but thank you again LG, and thank you RM for such generous use of your blog. I really appreciate it.

  7. Great review LG. I’ve already read it and enjoyed it thoroughly, I’m sure the rest of you are going to love it!

  8. “Methinks thou doth protest too much.” Hamlet. Not exactly the correct phrasing, but you get the idea.

That reminds me, the Shakespeare in the Park festival is next week here…..

And thanks to Kate’s giveaways, I am waiting for the mail to bring me my Dream Bound book and squirrel! Thank you to Kate, and RM for the promo!
