I think some of the little differences between men and women are really funny. My wife would have no problem buying condoms or medicine for a yeast infection or something like that but would be embarrassed to buy a BDSM romance novel at the book store. I would have no problem buying a BDSM book but I would never buy Vagisil. I’m even too embarrassed to buy toilette paper. Yet I would have not problem walking in a store full of people and saying “Give me the new Penthouse and the new copy of Redneck Pussy”.
(On a side note that has nothing to do with this blog you know how fucking embarrassing it is to walk into a store and have to choose the regular size condoms that are right next to the extra-large condoms. I don’t have to buy condoms anymore but it seemed like every time I did there was a pretty girl working the counter and she knows I had to choose the smaller condoms so it’s like saying “That’s right, I have a little dick”. If the girl was really hot I would buy the extra large size and then go to another store and buy the smaller ones.)
Anyway I was thinking of this because Sue Grimshaw gave me a great idea for a blog. She sent me this article along with some book covers and I am very curious to see what your reaction is. The article is written by Josie Leavitt who works in a book store. She was noticing that many women came into to buy 50 Shades of Grey but were somewhat embarrassed to ask for the book or pay for it at the counter. I find this extremely funny. And when ever I hear a woman complaining that women are objectified by men I want to show them the cover of romance novels to prove women are just as perverted as us. Anyway I want to know if you would be influenced by the cover on a book and if it would make you more or less likely to buy a book. Do you prefer a cover that suggests what the book is about? And would you be intimitaded to buy a book with a really hardcore cover?
Now from a man’s perspective who reads romance novels covers don’t really influence me because they are all muscular guys and all look the same too me so I am only really interested in the story. But if a hot chick was on the cover it may affect me. Below are some covers Sue sent and I will give you my opinion then I want to hear yours.
The above book is the popular Fifty Shades of Grey. The cover is very plain but the book is very popular which suggests women don’t much care about a sexy cover. This cover would effect me though because I would think “this book has no sex in it, it’s about a tie” and I don’t know if I would buy it. If there is no indication on the cover that someone’s dick is going to get sucked I’m not sure I’m interested.
This book is Lace and Leather. It shows a woman stripping a man and it is clear he will be getting a hummer. Ok, I changed my mind book covers do influence me. I’m buying this book.
Would this guy make you buy this book over Fifty Shades of Grey? It would effect me only because it’s about sports and that is apparent from the cover so it would make me a least pick it up and look at it.
This book cover suggests this chick is gonna get banged by two guys, not my thing. I wouldn’t even pick it up.
This cover does nothing for me and wouldn’t influence me at all in a negative or positive way.
Ok, I don’t know who the chick on this cover is but I love her and this is my new favorite book. I am giving it 1000 stars. I think it may be the greatest book ever written and I haven’t even read it.
So there you go I want to know what you think. I’m surprised because I didn’t think I would be influenced by a cover but I am. Are you?
Book covers make a huge difference to me. I am definitely a book cover snob; if the cover doesn’t appeal to me then I don't usually read it. Fifty Shades of Grey is supposed to be really hot but kind of dark. I haven't decided if I want to take the plunge yet. Changing the Game is a much better cover, as is Summer Heat. I do have to give you the last cover, she has a nice tush.
So Alix you would choose a book based on the cover?
Very rarely am I influenced by a book cover. Once in awhile, yes, but while looking at shelf after shelf of men with nice chests and abs, they begin to blur a bit. I usually shop based on author, but if I'm looking for something new, I will occasionally let my eye wander. Sometimes a cover will catch my eye, but I think even then a good title is more likely to make me pick up something new.
And just to put my two cents in about the 50 Shades Trilogy… not the best books I've ever read, but I really did like the series overall.. I wanted to smack the shit out of the morning show people for the way they've reacted to these books. Yes, there are many very steamy scenes (and as for your doubt about if anyone would be getting a blowjob… yeah, you should read it), but acting all scandalized and calling it Mommy Porn? Really??? They need to grow the hell up. With all the crap peddled at us by the mainstream media on a daily basis that we have to try and shield our kids from, they are going to be scandalized that women read stuff like this? And compared to a lot of stuff out there, this is really rather, well, vanilla, LOL.
Sorry, I went a little off-topic there.
Thanks Jenn, all I heard you say was blow job.
TRM3, (Twitter handle) you are always thinking *wink* – I'm all about the sexy MALE cover – definitely makes me pick up a book. 50 Shades cover is very professional and nice which is kind of misleading as the story is BDSM/racy so it would throw you for a loop if you did not read that type of story. I'm not much into the alphabet soup myself however, I did read 50 Shades and I thought the author did a nice job with the story even though I blushed, lots
Nice post – you always add a different perspective *grins*
And, I still have trouble buying condoms in the store . . . no problem buying sexy romance books though – go figure.
I usually do, unless it is recommended by a friend or an author that I really like. I know that is probably stupid but I like to be attracted to the cover art.
I also want to know if you guys would be intimidated by book covers to the point you may not buy them.
I have a weird love/hate relationship with romance cover novels. Like if I had one with the infamous man titteh or as I like to call it man chestery, I'd be too excited about having a book being published than to worry about offending my grandma or some of the ladies in my Sunday School class.
I do think that the whole 50 Shades trilogy marketing/covers were freaking brilliant. A good cover will make me take a chance on an author I'm not familiar with. I guess I'm thinking great cover=great story? Some of my favorite covers are Rachel Gibson's. She has totally hot sexytimes in her books but her covers have no nekkid peeps on it.
Honestly, I'm just a conflicted hot mess when it comes to covers. BTW 50 shades *is* about a tie. hee!
Wait a minute Sue, we can just brush aside this bombshell you dropped. You are a married woman why are you buying condoms? Never mind, none of my business. And why did you blush reading 50 shades? What about that book makes you blush?
And Sue do you think if more hot women were on the covers along with hot men maybe more men would try romance?
Did anyone understand Marquita cause I sure as hell didn't. Dies she like sexy covers or not?
I told you I'm a hot mess when it comes to them.
I admit that books with yummy men grab my attention and make me pick them up. However, if the blurb on the back doesn't seem like my thing, then back it goes, but with a fond sigh over that yummy cover model. I mean really…all those hard abs, yummy arms, and that V on the hips….well damn, I guess I'm a cover slut.
BTW, I've never understood the whole men embarrased to buy condoms. It seems to me that ya'll would *want* to buy them b/c it screams "I'm getting laid!" Plus, 'regular' condoms fit penis' up to 9 1/2 inches. That's nothing to complain about, plus if I see a guy checking out the Magnum brand, I'm thinking to myself, "yeah right pal." Only a small percentage of men actually NEED to wear Magnum condoms, all the rest are just buying them too big and they take the chance of it sliding off or something.
Wow…I seem to have some random knowledge about condoms…
I totally agree with you, Jenn. I kept thinking, "Huh?" 50 shades seems…well, tame in comparison to the books I've read. I mean no group sex with toys? What are these people think we "women of porn" are really reading? Lol!
And yes, RM, you should read even those books with only hot guy bods on 'em. Jaci Burton is another awesome writer! Of course along with all the others here, Gina, Alix, Kate. You've developed an awesome following amongst the great writers. =)
I'm mainly like Alix, I go for the women I must have first. There are just so many wonderful writers to choose from but I make it a point to pick up someone new and it does help to have a gorgeous cover. =)
I don't think I have ever been intimidated to buy a book I have bought but I definitely would be embarrassed to buy one that had a cover that was overtly sexual. I couldn't ever buy a Playboy or Playgirl and I think I would die if I ever went to a male strip show. Once, while in a local bookstore I had a sales clerk tell me that a lot of the covers from the Romance section of the bookstore made her blush. I get embarrassed reading the sex scenes I write.
Yes, I like sexy covers. I have no idea why that was so hard to type the first time. Lots of wet noodle lashes for me, Romance Man. (going with your whole BDSM theme)
I was about to ask you if you work for Trojan Grace.
LOL. Yes, I included something for everyone in that post, even you, RM.
And Marquita is right… it is about a tie, LOL.
TRM3 – IF I HAD to buy them – married yes & no need for them, condoms that is (note to self, be very clear when blogging with TRM3)
You may be right TRM3, more men may buy the sexy female covers – especially if e-book, lest they be intimidated buying them in a store.
Sent you an email RM. can you read it pls? Thnks
The only time covers influence me is if they catch my eye I will read the blurb and decide then. I will admit that I will not be reading 50 Shades but I have read Rough Raw and Ready by Lorelei James. I actually have all titles in her Rough Riders series.
Ps. Besides the girl getting it on with two guys, the two guys get it on with each other. It's a true menage.
Covers do influence me enough to pick the book up and read the blurb and the first page or two. I am attracted to sexy/erotic type covers because I do happen to like sex in my romances. I used to get embarrassed when I would take books with overtly sexy covers up to the check-out counter, but my husband helped me get past that. He regularly peruses the romance and erotica aisles with me without a shred of embarrassment. He figures it's nobody's damn business what he wants to read, and I shouldn't worry about it either. Plus, it's fun to see the shock on people's faces when he stands there thumbing through erotica books. Makes me love him even more!
Whoops….I meant to put up to 7/12-8 depending on the brand. Have no clue why I put 9 inches
And, if I'm honest, I totally wouldn't buy a paperback book with a half-naked man on the front at like a grocery store or something. Probably b/c I once bought a Larissa Ione book at Kroger one time and this man behind me asked me how old I was. I answered 27 (this was last year) and he told me I was too young to be reading "material like that." Of course….being the good samaritan that he was, he said this in a loud voice and of course everyone around us was curious and trying to see what I was buying. Never. Again. Now on my kindle, I can download sexy, smutty, man objectifying book covers all I want…in privacy
Maybe when I'm 30 I'll grow some balls and buy whatever book I want whenever I want??
Oh man Lisa, it really wasn't necessary to tell me that
I like your husband Vanessa.
Thanks Grace for the continuing condom lesson
Sorry I am an idiot I posted my response to the wrong blog post. Here is what I said:
I was embarrassed to buy pads for my wife at first because it was such a daunting task. So many choices, with wings, no wings, tampon with strings, and on and on. I was like WTF, it is not like we are building an airplane, just trying to stop blood flow for Christ's sake. When I was in high school and worked in retail ladies would bring Massengil and all these douche products and I would look at them and think, you must have some nasty going on down there.
I totally agree that covers sell a book and for the Shades of Grey, the cover does not suggest anything except maybe bondage because of the tie, so the women must be embarrassed because of prior knowledge of the subject matter and not by the cover art.
By the way, Alix's sex scenes were pretty fricking hot.
Ok RM…..so glad your daughter was ok.
I go first by author's…..if it's got a hot guy, all the better! That doesn't mean I don't pick up the others to look at!!! That's the one thing I miss about Kindle, most don't have covers! BUT…if I download amazon books to my iPad….it has covers!
Diane and I were discussing this AM, about trying to start a business where we could take pic's of guys for cover models! Unfortunately , we realized neither one of us is a good photographer, so that kind of let us down. But we're still thinking.
I guess what I'm saying…I look at the hot guys on the covers, but don't necessarily buy them, unless it's an author I like!
Can't wait to read her stuff Scott.
Thanks Pat, she's fine. So what is your answer? If you ahve two books with no knowledge of either would you go for the sexy cover or the plain cover?
I buy mainly Because of the authors But i do look at the Covers it doesnt bother me to buy them if they are Racey or even in your face Sexy , tho i have been known to take a Second and third look at some even if not buying it LOL Havent read the 'Shades' yet have massive TBR stack to get through First but i'm Wondering if it Will compare to those 'BDSM' Books i'v Read , and as those are Brills i'm hoping it doesnt disappoint !
I have no problem buying the sexy covers. Like you, I think the tie cover suggest anything but steaminess. I love the sexier covers and I think Maya's sexy female cover above is as appealing as the man-flesh covers. Sexy is sexy.
However, if a female is purchasing condoms, I wonder if she needs to have both size condoms on hand. But then how does she approach that subject the first time? Large or no? Seems an awkward position to put a guy in. And what does that say about her to said man that she has a selection to chose from? LOL
Ok…you got me…….I would pick up the sexy cover! Of your example covers, the Jaci Burton one jumps out. Plus the one with his sweet looking tushie hanging out! See? I don't even remember the names!
Mari, that is a great question.
I used to be a "don't judge a book by its cover" kind of woman. I would buy books based only on reviews and referrals, period.
That being said, when I was browsing at a bookstore (not happening so much nowadays), a cover could sometimes be useful to figure out what was between the pages, so to speak. This was especially true because as a reader, I had come to expect certain kinds of covers from certain kinds of books. Examples: Regency has the gorgeously dressed woman with the sexy decolletage; erotica has the over-the-top racy covers with plenty of skin; women's fiction has the soft-filter covers of two girls holding hands or a shot of a woman on the beach looking pensive; small town romance has the picture perfect shot of the little town.
But recently, as I've started to pay more attention to covers, I've become less…rigid…in my thinking.
My Captcha word was …..Dally!!!! LOL
I have to be honest, I never bought condoms in my life!!!! I'm a 60's person, I was on the pill, " for female health reasons".
Cough- cough!
At first glance I would not pick up 50 shades. I have heard both good and bad on this series, its on my massive TBR list but not close to the top of the list.
Now all the others, hell yes, besides the covers,I have read books by them all.
When I went to book stores it did't bother me at all. Now my husband can buy any female product out there, but take him to the adult toy store, and he is all emberassed.I have to pay, and I just laugh at him.
I only buy ebooks now so I look at Amazon, All Romance,Samhain And Eloras Cave.
I love a good cover but the title is important too. Why, I'm not sure, it just can't be really corny. The blurb is still the most important to me.
Will someone please tell me what decolletage means. Geez Elisabeth do you have to constantly flaunt your IQ
OK, before I can answer RM's questions I have to get this out of my system.
Grace, I don't know where you live but I am coming there and we are going to that store together. I am then going to find the dirtiest, filthiest book of gay porn I can find, and when that jerk starts to ring us up, I am going to stop him, pick up the book, and tell him I better read parts out loud so I can make sure there is enough anal sex in the book, because he is a guy who looks like he needs to get fucked up the ass!
Sorry, I am still riled up from the hockey game. But what a prick!
(One of my BF's always says, Diane, tell us what you really think.)
First off…. I would buy any of that stuff in the store and would not be at all embarassed about buying the smaller condoms! I figure it would just prove that I am gonna get some!!
I actually own every one of the books you have above….. Covers definatly make a difference when I am browsing for books. If it is an author I already read, doesn't matter…. If I am looking for something new…the cover better jump out and grab me.
I used to work at an elementary school and I always had to be careful about what book I was reading where the cover was concerned. It would totally embarrassing to get caught by a kindergartener with a sexy cover book… NOW, I mostly only read on my Ereader so that doesn't really matter anymore…. I can sit and read about anything and no one is the wiser.
BTW…. Love your blog!
Décolletage = BOOBS!
Shame,shame, you did't know that.
From Wikipedia: Décolletage (or décolleté, its adjectival form, in current French) is the upper part of a woman's torso, between her waist and neck, comprising her neck, shoulders, back and chest, that is exposed by the style of her clothing. However, the term is most commonly applied to a neckline which reveals or emphasizes cleavage.
Keep getting the dreaded "unable to post" comment so will try later. Now watch…this one will work!
Elizabeth, RM can only understand small words like BOOBS! Lol
I'll post you picture RM.
Good gawd…walk away from the internet to write and come back to a whole new party! Great post, RM, and what's cool is seeing so many new names posting. I read Grace's comment and wanted to castrate the jerk behind her! What an ass–Grace, I wish you'd turned around and read him the riot act, though I admit, when I was younger I probably would have been embarrassed to buy a book with a sexy cover, though I honestly don't know. I did buy all of Nancy Friday's books on women's sexual fantasies and copies of classic erotica without any problem, so maybe if those covers were available in the sixties and seventies they wouldn't have stopped me. Now? Not a damned thing stops me!
In fact, when I see people looking through the romance section I'll ask if they've ever read my stories and I have no problem at all pushing my books, but as far as the actual question? I wish the covers were more tasteful, to be honest. I know there are a lot of readers who will not buy my books because they don't want them where the kids might see two naked people on the cover.I don't blame them–I don't allow the grandkids in my office because of the covers on the walls.
But Elizabeth is right in her description of the various covers. It's almost like a code within the industry. Most paranormal will have a full or half moon on the cover (along with a sexy guy) Urban Fantasy will have a woman with a weapon of some sort and often a graveyard.Humorous contemporary romance often has a cartoon cover while a cover with a country scene or a house with a front porch or any number of settings will denote not only the genre, but the level of sex between the pages.
As far as choosing a book, for me it's mostly word of mouth. I make recommendations to my readers, and they in turn make recommendations to me. I've discovered a lot of new authors that way. And Sue G. is another one I pay attention to–I don't think there's ANYONE who knows more about the publishing industry than Sue Grimshaw, so if she recommends a book, it goes on my list to at least be considered.
Back to the writing. I'm getting a lot of weird twists to this one, and I'm only in the fifth chapter!
Hmmm….had to get out of Chrome and open in Internet Explorer to get it to post. Weird.
When I was a teenager back in the 70's I used to get embarassed by some of the covers. Now, I could slap a dildo on a counter and not care. My money, my life. My attitude is, yeah, I like sex. Is that a problem?
I will pick a book up by a new author based on the cover to read the back but have never bought a book because of the cover. But I will definitely pass up a book because of a cover. I don't like menages so I appreciate when the cover lets me know that is inside. Of all the covers above, I like the Lace/Leather the best. I like my books very steamy and straight ahead M/F and that cover leads me to believe that is what the book is about. I guess the books with only a male on the front are appealing, but I think a man and a woman in a clinch is the hottest. So after all that rambling, no, covers don't really influence me but I appreciate the eye candy all the same. Adds to the reading experience.
Thanks Tracy.
Calm down Diane, geez did the flyers lose?
CrazyGranny – you mean tits?
Thanks Elisabeth, on this blog we call them tits
Hi Diane……..I checked out Leather and Lace! It's a time travel sexy western! That may be my next Kindle lending library book! Ok, slapping a dildo on the counter might be too much for me…..maybe you could buy it for me? I'm still looking for the pink sparkly one you or Luci was talking about. Purple would be nice too…………
Oh, RM, you love the chick on the cover because she is wearing purple which must be your favorite color and because she obviously has good taste in jewelry, right? 1000 stars. Wow.
Diane, I am going to marry that woman. All I need is Lexie's permission.
Pat, there is a nice sex toy store near me that caters to M/F couples. Of course, I will pick up something nice for you.
RM, do not give your wife the opening to get rid of your ass. Didn't she coin NGL? We all still remember the I'm-so-sick-I'm-going-to-die incident.
I think you should ask Lexie to pose for you wearing that outfit on the cover of the book you gave 1000 stars to. She'll never have to do another thing for you again.
I read that taking sexy pictures helps keep a marriage together in some women's magazine. LOL!
Thanks Diane!!! I'm not much into Ménage……so, seeing a book with a cover with three's , I wouldn't pick up. Just me.
Funny, when I spelled ménage ….my magic speller on my iPad put the little accent thingy on automatically!!! Pretty smart iPad!
RM, the typical Regency novel will say " bosoms heaving". In other words her tits are falling out of her gown.
Thanks, Kate!! I wish I had read him the riot act too. In my head I'm much more of a badass–complete with my own theme music
Diane, you should bottle some of your badass-ness and sell it! I would buy that shit in a heartbeat.
And hold the phone, I just realized that a lot of names sound familiar…Sue G. Kate, Ruthie (I'm sure there are others)…so I did some google/Amazon searching, *cough* stalking. Holy canoli.
RM you tricky dick. Here you had me thinking you were just some normal guy who just happened to stumble into the world of romance novels. Then come to find out, you have all these great authors on your blog. Normal my ass. Well played man, well played.
So, I'm off to download some books from these amazing ladies. Happy reading night to me before waking up to my role of elementary teacher aka Crazy Train Conductor
Oh, okay, RM. I'll remember that for next time.
TiTS!
( . Y . ) normal | . . | flat-chested ( o Y o ) puffy ( # Y # ) censored
How was that RM?
Grace, they were all brought here by Kate not by me but I'm glad they are here.
crazygranny, I am impressed. Now I have to figure out how to work them into my posts!
CrazyGranny, you are crazy
Yes! Covers entice me, of course! What else could draw me to pick up one book instead of another at the bookstore? All other things equal, only the covers will give me any info on the content, and publishers design them to convey something about the content, like any good advertisement, i.e. more sex on the cover, more sex inside, lol. They want their target audience to find them. Of course, after that, I read the back description and an excerpt, but do books with nice covers have an immediate advantage? Absolutely. If you want to see how widespread this is, Google "cover lust," lol. There are exceptions. Books without eye-catching cover art rely heavily on word of mouth, as Fifty did. One waxed chest is like the rest (and plentiful), so if I see one of those, it doesn't influence me much.
Buying romances at the store can be a little awkward if I have a lot of eyes on me because I wear hijab, and I know the common perceptions, but I don't sweat it too much. Btw, RM, Adblock blocks the covers, just a heads-up.
Nu, what does that mean about adblock? And Nu, is your view of covers nurture or nature? (Nu will get that)
RM, that woman on Sweet Addiction – she has two of the hottest men alive. There is no room for you!!! yes, I've read it and it was awesome. I would've made a different ending, but thats just me. Maya Banks is the best seller Author, not me.
Diane, DLV – please teach me! I am getting better, but I couldn't say 'anal sex' aloud in public for everyone to hear. I want to be more like you!! May I be your apprentice?
Book Covers- first I go by author. If I know the author, the book cover can be solid black for all I care, I want whats inside. If I need a visual, I can go to Cheryl Brooks blogsite. She offers something that RM never will (and I don't want him to either).
I can buy any book in a bookstore – thats what they sell. At first I was embarassed buying the erotica, not anymore since I have been conversing with Kate. Don't know why that made a difference, but it did; or maybe its just this blog that has removed some inhibitions; probably both.
I like to have a book to read while eating lunch. I can relax, eat at my own pace, wind down after working. When I took that last book with me, I was embarassed to leave it at the table where other people could see it. I also didn't want other people seeing my nose in it either. Funny huh? One of Kate's books have 2 naked people on the front, I would just turn it upside down on the table.
I have learned to read some of the book before I buy it, because I have books that I read the first chapter and just can't get into the book. I don't whats on the cover.
So, reviews, knowing the author's other work are important. Book covers are not.
Since these romance novels are geared toward women, I would expect to have a sexy man on the cover.
LG, are you telling me my future wife is defiled by two men?
Covers influence me to some degree. If I’m scanning the isles and I don’t like the cover, I don’t tend to pick it up. One thing I dislike is seeing the cover models faces. It interferes with the metal image I get while reading the book. Nothing worse than a cover showing a guy with a hot body and a butt ugly face lol, or worse looks completely different than the description in the book.
One other note about erotic romance…the title. If the title is so obviously sexual, like 'Four-play' , or 'Whips and Chains', or something like that; I'm less likely to look at it. I suspect there will be less plot and just sex in those. I like to have a story to go along with my hot sex. So the title definitely influences me, too
RM, define 'defiled' .
I buy most of my books as e-books, so I don't have embarrassment about the covers. As far as whether a cover would make me choose one book over another? It might, although I'd probably be looking more about how professional it looks than whether it's hot or plain. My assumption is that *in general* the more professional cover would be a reflection of the quality of the writing and editing, too. I do have some books by newer authors that are pretty good but had pretty cheesy covers, so it's not always accurate.
It's interesting that women would be embarrassed to buy the 50 Shades books since the covers are pretty plain. It must be because of the "mommy porn" coverage. (Side note: should we start referring to Playboy & Penthouse as "daddy porn"?) I think that embarrassment is another reflection that in our culture we seem to be really conflicted about women's sexuality.
Scott – I first saw your post when I was catching up on the last blog post and I had a real WTF moment. It makes a lot more sense to read it here.
'Nothing worse than a cover showing a guy with a hot body and a butt ugly face lol, or worse looks completely different than the description in the book'. … couldnt agree more Sheri ! its like reading a series and then they make a film and the Actor they choose isnt even Close to the characters Description in the Book, Grips me Badly
Just tell me LG, what do those bastards do to my baby?
Jamie, I hate the mommy porn thin. It is so stupid and is just down to denigrate the industry
Nu, I understand what you mean "Adblock" . Isn't that You have someone censoring in your country?
I would be surprised to see a woman in a garment you described purchasing erotic romance. I will now be more open to that. Thanks for enlightening me!!
RM, truly I don't understand the psychology of BDSM, but I'm trying.
Those hot hunky alpha men did what she needed and wanted them to do. To keep her feeling safe and comfortable. The difference with the men is that alot of Masters don't 'love' their subs, they just provide for them and keep them safe and protected. And the subs give them total control. Read the book. There's alot of emotion involved in this one.
LG – have you read any Cherise Sinclair?
LG, you just made me remember this series I read. It was.. No words can really describe it, i'll try. Its set in DC (politics) powerful, influential people. This woman gets blackmailed into a BDSM/prisoner type, slave. It was probably the most graphic betrayal of extreme degradation, sex, pain I have ever read. To me she gets brainwashed into beliving she likes all this stuff. He pimps her out to men with extreme sexual tastes. Once I realized what was going on in the story I could't stop reading.
It made me think this is what goes on when girls and woman are kidnapped for sex slaves.
LG, your response to RM is just perfect! Define defiled. LMAO!
You may not believe this (and probably don't care), but until I was 16, I was painfully shy. So bad my parents considered therapy for me. I remember that I finally got so disgusted with being afraid of what people thought about me that I broke out with a vengeance. So, yes, you can learn to say anal sex in public and I will be glad to go to LV and help you!
Grace and RM…I was brought here by Jessica Scott posting the link on Facebook, so if there's any blame going around, SHE is the guilty party! Not me. I'm innocent. Remember? Sweet little old grandmother type?
(and wow…I actually wrote that without my fingers cramping!)
I, too, was brought here by Jessica Scott. So by all means, heap the blame(?) on her!
Oh Kate, sweet grandmotherly type…….I'm laughing…very hard!!! You are the Grandmother type, we all want to be!!!
You are very sweet, but when you engage with your characters……whooee!!!! HOT MAMA is more like it!
LG, I'd love to go back to Vegas, but I'd have to stay at the Bellagio, with a room overlooking the fountain…..bucket list! Diane, I'll be glad to go with you to teach LG how to say "anal sex". Just a warning….there are these skanky guys on the street, slapping these trading cards of naked women, that are advertised to get to you in 20 minutes…guaranteed! Can I say icky?
Anyway, we can work on it.
I totally agree with Sheri – Just leave the face off cause It never matches the authors descriptions.
I'm a new fan you blame Kate Douglas – Love U Kate!!
There is a lot of new people today. Thanks to all of you. If I say or do anything to piss you off remember that it's Kate's fault.
I'm a coverwhore. I don't try to judge though. In fact, I just read a book that had a bad cover, but a great story. Had me crying like a baby. Read another that the publisher should have been hung by their balls for even releasing it with the awful cover. Probably one of their relatives did it. I won it, chatted with the author, read it and even reviewed it. Worst cover ever!
I pick a book UP for the cover, but the blurb needs to sell it to me. I don't BUY for the cover only.
On the subject of buying romance books. I think I would be more embarrassed to buy a bodice ripper than the modern versions. Also, I'm the girl who bought the book on how to give the best job – tips from a gay man, from a bookstore and not online. So that shit doesn't bother me. Just think, the people watching you are either judging you or thinking….damn I wanna piece of that. Either way, fuck em'. You will likely never see them again. Well except the bookstore employees, but they probably have seen everything.
Lol, RM! Good one.
Adblock is a Firefox add-on. It prevents ads from showing when you're browsing. The Amazon book covers linked in your post were blocked, for some reason.
LG, happy to be of service! Lol.
BTW, no problem buying condoms and lube either. In fact, took my son shopping for them. Bought him a COSTCO box and then we discussed lube and bought that for him too.
Whoa, whoa, whoa, am I the only one that wants an explanation from Toni on that last post?
my phone rang…long distance…will be back soon..
Pat, I am also very good at making people who approach me on the street go away, so we will be fine in Vegas. In fact, when they tried to approach my husband and hand him a card, I backed them off with a stare. Stick with me girl!
Yes, RM, you are, because obviously the rest of us have figured out that Toni is a parent who wants her son to be well informed and practice safe sex.
Lol Diane, I would tell them to give me the card!
Being a Mom and having those convos with a son, I already know the answer!
I have a confession to make. I like big men. And I don’t mean muscular. I am not as attracted to the standard hard muscled hairless guys that are on most covers. It just does nothing for me and it would not sway me to buy a book. I like my men softer and with more hair. Bigger guys can also have different physiques. Not all big guys turn me on. My husband, although he’s big, has a sexy physique in my eyes, and that really turns me on. His sexiness is my guilty pleasure and I like it that way.
If I went into a bookstore I would rather buy books with covers that are more generic and non-assuming. On my nook, however, I do have some risqué book covers. It is a little embarrassing for me to buy books with graphic covers, but then again there are not many “sexy” covers that make me want to buy that book because that’s not what I’m in to. If I did buy a book with a sexy cover, I would buy them for my Nook (where no one could see the covers) I would steer clear of the graphic covers. I don’t like the idea of my daughter seeing the graphic covers.
RM- About the condom issue, I am married and we use condoms. Easy clean up and I don’t have to remember to take a pill (I am very forgetful, and I SURE don’t want another kid!) I am not embarrassed to buy condoms but I can see where size would be an issue if a man had to buy his own condoms.
Diane, I want details. How old is her son? What kind of lube? Is it for hetero sex (not that it matters)? Is it for butt sex? These are important issues.
Whoa is right, I had many conversations with my son about sex, but the Costco box ? :- 0.
My family says I have a " look". my husband and kids call it the Lizard look….can't imagine what they mean…
I know it can't come anywhere near your stare Diane! Sticking with you!
Costco.????? WOW! I am so impressed! Makes buying sexy books sound like child's play!
Yes, I want my son to be armed. Also, if he would just listen to me and read some of my romances, he would be the luckiest man on campus! Now I did NOT give him pictorials on what to do though. That would be just wrong.
Hey Pat. There are covers on the kindle, mostly. The system just pumps to the first text. If you back up the pages, the covers are there.
LG – We go to Vegas regularly. Getting ready to send the hubby, so I can have some free time at home. He is getting his T-Bucket prepped for the drive. He asked me if I wanted to go…HELL NO…I don't want to sit in a t-bucket for 15+ hours not making proper stops. Fly my ass down and I'll be there. I'll let you know when I show up. If you want a t-bucket ride let me know and I'll send the hubby over to you to cruise the strip.
Also, Cherise Sinclair rules in the BDMS field. Love Tymber Dalton too.
you cant beat Cherise Sinclair and Tymber Dalton ! I totally agree there , i also went with the boy to get him stocked up LOL He Was Laughing as i was doing the Whole Safe Sex spiel and he just turned to me and said ' mum i want pink ones ' totally shut me up LOL
Another great BDSM series is Incognito by Anna Leigh Keaton and Madison Layle
My Last Captcha Was 'Glans Preceding ' LMAO
I couldn't get past your questions w/out answering RM…
He is my youngest. I'm very proud of him to openly ask me questions. He's the one to bring up the lube questions, like which is good for condoms, do the tingly ones work. We went with a generic lube. I want him to use condoms and not discover if the tingly ones are great. He wanted to get the "for him and her" and I vetoed it. As far as I know it's for hetero sex, but I'm okay the other way too. Now my oldest, he's like I don't need to know anything, I want to learn on my own. I'm thinking, dumbass…you are never going to know what to do unless you get a little help.
The Costco box has a great variety and it was his first box. Buying them individually is expensive. Little brat probably was doing college pranks with them.
Diane, Pat, I will work on getting a reservation at the Bellagio. 3 days, 2nights, spa time included, okay? That'll be great. You provide your own transportation though. And those skanky guys with the cards,,I just never acknowledge them. The businesses on the strip hate those guys. Diane, I want to see how you would handle those guys.
Prostitution is illegal in Las Vegas, some ordinanace. So what those guys are selling is illegal. Its also disease infested, I suspect.
Going back to book covers… I hate it when the book cover is not the characters in the book!!!
Some main character in the book is blond, and the cover shows some handsome meditteranean type. And on the paranormals, the cover will have an animal that is not in the book. The animals in the book are not portrayed on the cover. Whats up with that?
I found this blog from Kate, so i guess we can blame Jessica for me being here also.
Dianne, Pat, how did you find this blog???
your a good mom toni
Jamie, I haven't read any of Cherise Sinclair's work. I am new to this and I have alot of TBR!!!
crazygranny, when you remember the series name let me know…I will try it, but I'm not really in to degradation. Its the kinky consensual stuff that I like. But I want to know anyway. I would never have expected to appreciate M/M scenes, but I do.
Pat, I can't believe you would say 'anal sex' in public. would you? maybe you could apprentice too.
I do know that I'm not 'into' girls. I like kinky everything else, but not the F/F thing. Just me *shrug*
okay, I think I have caught up on the conversation now
LG, I "like" and subscribe to a ton of authors on FB. I know it was in my newsfeed and I followed the link over here. It probably was Jessica Scott but I don't remember for sure. All I know is that I am so grateful I found him and all the rest of you. I really love you guys. C'mon, group hug!
I know the name. It was a series that stuck with me because of the subject. I found it when I first started reading the BDSM. There is no romance in it. Like I said, i got so far in and then I just had to finish.
Its The Milk Bitch Trilogy by Francis Gaines Bennett. I bought for my Nook.
Thank you RM, I try.
I find alot of authors do the kinky consensual. I rarely read about degradation, when I do, I get pissy about the characters. Cherise is a great author. Her Master of the Mountain is a good one. There is some degradation, but the reasoning is to open up the woman and is done in a way that gets you all riled up and them brings you down, because you just learned something new about BDSM. I find books that delve into the lifestyle and teach the best. The Reluctant Dom by Tymber Dalton is like that too. A really eye opening learner. Very emotional.
I just finished Cherise's Wild Hunt Legacy series and it was very good too. Had menage no BDSM, though there was some light spanking. It's paranormal. I liked it alot. It was nice to get away from short erotica and get involved with a storyline that was more involved. Nice PN universe.
I'm the same. Can't get into into F/F, a couple scenes is ok but give me m/m/f m/f/m or more males and 1 female and I'm happy. or just the normal 1male 1 female
Ok, I'm taking a break from reading JScott's book and apparently I need to add "say anal sex in public" to my grow a pair bucket list. I would LOVE LOVE LOVE for RM to do a post on this topic. Lately, it seems the more books I read, the more it talks about anal sex. Is there an upswing in this–did it ever go away–have I just been too sheltered all my life and missed the boat so to speak? I just finished reading Promises Keep by Sarah Mccarty a few days ago and WHOA…I was blushing from my head to my toes.
What is it with men and this? Or, is it women too? Lord, I'm confused.
I know the market for F/F is out there, it's just not in your face like the other delicious stuff is. I'm okay with it, I just haven't come across it that much. So I can't say if it's not my thing or not. I'm not bothered by it by no means and won't turn a book down if the plot can carry it.
Back to covers. I already adore Maya Banks, and that book is on my pile to read (need to catch up). Even I would be pick it up, cuz that cover is sexy.
I'm sorry, Diane made me cry but I'm back. Ok, a blog on anal sex? Consider it done. Grace how are you liking Jessicas Book?
What do you mean Grace….and this? Anal sex as a practice and showing up in literature? I think it has never gone away, but erotica has really opened up the discussions of it. It's sex plays "dirty little secret". I think generally people are curious, but scared of the stigma of it.
And NO RM I'm not a practitioner. Hubby did the point and raised his eyebrow and I'm like WTF dude, read a book….there is prep involved asshat! Don't go there unless you know what the hell you are doing.
As my hero from Samantha from Sex in the City says — I'm trisexual – I'll try anything once. Too bad my partner isn't that open. He would probably run away screaming knowing I have read menage and BDSM and got hot and steamy over it. He wouldn't even stop to discover that it is all fantasy! I love learning new exciting positions and tricks from books.
Oh and Grace…that isn't blushing, that is getting hot and bothered. Rawwwrrrr!
Diane made me curious. Why this blog, there are a million blogs out there why has this one become what it has. I'm not fishing for compliments because I'm not the reason but how come no other blog gets this way?
Personally, I think it has alot to do with your personality and openness. I have discussed many a times with other women about how we wished our men would crack open a book and read books that practically give step by step directions on what women want. You have removed the ego and opened up to us. Given us a platform to discuss sex openly and honestly and not get judged. There may be other blogs out there, but there is only one RM.
How is that for an ass kissing? Feel better now?
Grace, as I have been reading romance, I have found the more and more erotic books. I don't think regular romance will have anal sex, I haven't seen it until I get into erotica, and those trade size paperbacks.
I know that some men are fascinated by it, not sure how many heterosexual men would 'be the bottom' so to speak, but I had a male friend who quite enjoyed the dildo action . I didn't try to analyze him. He is retired airforce pilot, as conservative hetero as you will ever find, but he liked it. TMI?
Need to respond to both Grace and Toni–fwiw, when I added anal sex between men or men and women to my stories, sales sky-rocketed. Of course, mine are paranormal, so we're already into the fantasy aspect, but a lot of readers are fascinated by it. It's not that uncommon a sexual practice if my email is any indication, and I know my gay readers like the stories where my men engage in sex, but it's all part of the fantasy, something that maybe a lot of readers are just curious about. For whatever reason, it's become a standard of erotic romance.
And the f/f scenes–Toni, I'm as heterosexual as they come, but I can see where two women could find a lot of interesting things to do together. When I write my f/f sex scenes, I do them with the idea that a woman would know better than any man what would please another woman. The very first scene I ever wrote between two women was in the first Wolf Tales, between two of my female characters who remain "main" characters throughout the entire series. Xandi is open to anything, and Keisha is a victim of rape who is unable to have sex with the man who loves her. The scene was written as one meant to heal, and I found myself really getting into it.
After I realized that yes, I could write a graphic scene between women and actually enjoy the process, it seemed to open me up to writing just about anything. And as I recall, RM read it and approved. I'm still waiting to hear back from him on the guy on guy stuff, but don't want to push the poor boy…
As far as well-written BDSM, I always recommend Joey Hill. She's got a series with Ellora's Cave that is supposed to be fantastic, but I've not read it–it's her Knights of the Boardroom series. Contemporary BDSM. The series that I think is fantastic is her Vampire Queen series. Amazing stories, and really well written.
Okay…my captcha was "the rubwas" which sort of goes with a lot of the meandering conversation today…
I'll second what Toni just said. both of her comments.
Toni, you and me, we oughta get together. what conversations we would have. come to vegas with DLV and Scout
LG – I have a timeshare in Vegas. Just give me some dates!
Toni–Yes, it was probably hot and bothered too, that book (and series) is just full of Rawrr. I guess I've just been under a rock b/c not many romances I've read have talked about the backdoor. I'm working on becoming Tri-sexual, but baby steps for me first
RM–I wasn't sure about it at first, but I'm really digging it! I honestly wasn't expecting it to have this much depth, but it's tugging at my heartstrings. So glad I trusted your review
Aah Toni, now you are my best friend. Timeshare!!! where you do reside right now?
does your timeshare include Bellagio, cuz thats the only place Pat will stay. A room facing the fountains, and I get it, why she wants that. I would never leave the room!!!!!!!
Toni nailed it–no one on this list has ever judged anyone else. There's a sense that we can say what we want and be taken seriously–or not, as the post demands! I'm used to being very open with my writing and at conferences, but I always tell people that when I write or speak in public (and you should HEAR some of the talks I've given!) I send my inner 35 year old. The old broad stays home. I think my inner 35 year old is the one hanging out on your list, RM.
Plus, something you've done here is provide an open forum with a sense of community. If you could bottle it, you'd be a millionaire. (visual of the pied piper piping his way down the street with crowds of women following…)
Whatever you're doing, just keep doing it.
Toni, have you ever heard of Dan Savage? He writes a sex advice column. The other day, he was giving great, practical advice to a young gay man who was having difficulty with anal sex. And it finally made me realize why I dislike it so much in most, not all, romance novels. Because, as you said, there is prep required, and as far as I am concerned, it is extremely unromantic prep. Too much work. I am getting a little tired that it is the trendy thing to write into romances now. One anal sex scene. Check. It has to work for the characters and the story. Then I am okay with it. Not thrilled, but okay.
I agree Kate. I actually think WT's were my first F/F experiences. Loved them and was not bothered at all – May have even been turned on! Ok YES I was dammit!
LG – I'm a Hilton TS owner, so no I can't help with the Bellagio experience. But my TS can take me other wonderful places. Wanna go to Scotland for a month. I can make it happen. Disneyworld, Mexico or other exotic places. I love my TS because I can use it anywhere and anytime. We have only used it in Vegas though. I usually stay at the property at the end of the strip, just past Circus Circus.
To add a comment to Kate's last post, there is an amazing mix of humans on this blogsite. From Princesses to Tomboys and everything in between. We would hardly come together at any normal gathering. But we have this in common! I love it! I want to expand my horizons and understand lots of other stuff, people, customs, practices, sex.
Toni, Hilton just pulled their contract from that hotel the "Riviera". As far as I know there is no Hilton property near the strip anymore.
Scotland, I'm there. Just have to get that passport, damn it! Maybe we can talk the others into Scotland, even if there is no ginormous water fountains timed to music.
No Diane I have not heard of him, but he sounds like he is someone I would enjoy.
Another thing my GF's and I have discussed, is that we wished that we would have been reading these books when we were younger. To know how much more there is out there. Not trust our unknowing men to what is good and what isn't. I sure would have had alot more fun.
I buy books by author. If there’s a particularly pleasing cover of hot man or even a hot couple, that’s bonus. If the author is unknown to me, I may pick up a book with a hot cover because that’s my taste but I’d only buy it if the blurb on the back has appeal. I rarely impulse buy since I have an enormous TBB list of favorite author's new books coming out and new-to-me authors I’d like to try (that I’ve already researched).
I’ve never been embarrassed to buy books with hot covers. My attitude is I'm buying merchandise that is being sold here. As a matter of fact, if even one of those little twits behind a counter even thought about making a comment, I’d rip his balls off. If said twit were female, she'd wouldn't forget my bitch slap. I’ve never been one to take a lot of shit and the older I get, the less I take. I firmly believe in “live and let live” unless someone gets in my face about a choice I’ve made for me that has nothing to do with them.
@Grace. Had I been you at Kroger and the man behind me had asked my age and then questioned my reading taste, I would have ripped him a new one…much louder than he thought possible. One of my skills was to evacuate an airplane without a megaphone for God’s sake:) I don’t lose my temper often but assholes like that set me off. Who in the fucking hell did he think he was? The book police? The arrogance of his statement makes me want to bitch slap him into next week.
As an aside, Grace, I love Larissa Ione and she’s a favorite author. I do hope you won’t wait until you’re 30 to grow into your big girl pants.:) It’s nobody’s business but yours what you read and most especially not an opinion from some flaming do-gooder twit who doesn’t even know you.
Way back, when I was exploring my reading taste and knew that I liked reads with heat plus good story, I bought a Sexy Beast book (anthology that Kate [Douglas] had a novella in) because of the cover…the BACK COVER that said: “WARNING! This is a REALLY HOT book. (Sexually Explicit)” The prime half naked man on the front cover was simply gravy:)
The book, Fifty Shades of Grey (E. L. James), is not anywhere near my radar screen. There are literally hundreds of books I’d rather buy and if I were all that into BDSM, there are numerous authors with a proven track record that I would choose to read.
After reading the description for Lace and Leather (Leanore Elliott), I would buy it for 1.99 if it were available for Nook. It's only offered for Kindle that I could find.
I’ve read lots of Jaci Burton books and while her covers are hot, I read for content.
Re: Lorelei James (Rough, Raw, and Ready). RM-Remy said,
“This book cover suggests this chick is gonna get banged by two guys, not my thing. I wouldn't even pick it up.”
Remy…Would you pick up this book if it were a man who was gonna get banged by two women? Tell me true.
I love Lorelei James and have 11 of her books in the Rough Rider series. Ménage is not my thing either but that situation is not in every book. It was well done in Rough, Raw, and Ready but I’m unable to believe that such a harmonious relationship could exist between the three of them. In my book, it says, “not a fucking chance.” Some fantasies are easier for me to buy into than others;)
Re: Stephanie St. James (Summer Heat). New-to-me author. I wouldn’t just read it because the hero is wearing a towel on the cover. I mean, it’s a nice cover but lots of books I read have hunks in towels (or less) on the cover. What would tip me toward purchasing the book is if the story and heat level appealed to me (recall…I have a 35 page TBB list).
Re: Maya Banks (Sweet Addiction). I agree, Remy, a 1,000 stars to this model’s body and color me green. I’ve only read one Maya Banks book and will probably try another but I’m not much into the “dominant” theme. If I read another it will be in The Kelly/KGI series.
Your comment on Sweet Addiction is going on my list of favorites: “Ok, I don't know who the chick on this cover is but I love her and this is my new favorite book. I am giving it 1000 stars. I think it may be the greatest book ever written and I haven't even read it.”
A most worthy double snort from me on THE COVER UP and group hug back Diane:)
Mine is the Hilton Grand Vacation Club. There are three self owned properties in Vegas. One behind Flamingo, the "V" shaped one between the closed down Sahara and CC and the other one off the strip over by the Hilton. They built their own properties. I like it, cuz I can walk off the strip and there is no ringing bells and noise. The rooms have full kitchens too w/BBQ's by the pools. Very homey.
GET YOUR PASSPORT!!
Yes Nancy I would buy that book.
I agree. For me, it's how you Go. There. No subject is off limits, no topic is taboo. You don't try and front some BS about how perfect you are and how perfect your relationship is. It's real. I love reading your perspective on the stuff I know men are thinking about but may not necessarily voice (at least not to a bunch of women).
Plus, Lexie is cool. I like how she's involved and supportive. The combo works
Dan Savage is great. He and his husband started the It Gets Better Project to help prevent suicide among LGBT youth. His column is called Savage Love. Very explicit but factual and non-judgmental. And a hetero like me learns lots of things.
Diane, have you seen Savage U on MTV? My daughter & I have watched it. Dan Savage & a producer go to college campuses and answer questions from students.
No. Jaime, I haven't checked out MTV in years but I'm sure I can find it on the internet. Thanks, I didn't know he did that. I'm just so behind what he is doing. I had a cousin 25 years ago that committed suicide. Not gay, other issues, but between gay bashing and bullying, there are too many young people giving up on life. It does get better.
LG, get a passport. Even if you never go anywhere, every woman should have one. I got mine years ago, before I had any plan to travel anywhere, and it was a romance author speaking at a convention who convinced me. She said something along the lines that a passport is dreams. She was absolutely right. It's being able to imagine hopping on a plane to go anywhere in the world whenever you want to go. It opens your mind up to fantasy that can become reality. You may never use it, but just having it in your possession means that if the opportunity arises for you to leave on the trip of a lifetime tomorrow, you don't have to pass it up.
I think everyone should have a passport. It's a reminder that you're not stuck in one place, even if you are!
Remy…You're such a slut.
Diane, thanks for pointing out Savage Love. found his website, easy. He's in Seattle. I am glad that this planet is getting more open about sexuality. Hiding in the closet is for pussys!
Toni, I understand! I'll see what I can find out about those properties. Like how far they are from Bellagio!! would be fun!!
I agree Kate. You never know when an opportunity will come up. My first one I didn't use, but I had my next one up and ready when a friend said she was going to Ireland and I was excited for her and wished I could go. She said come and so I did. You can't jump on that plane and escape unless you are ready.
I wouldn't have know about Savage U if my daughter hadn't told me. Trust me – I don't generally watch MTV any more. I agree about the It Gets Better Project – a terrific idea and much needed. Actually, I think it's a message almost all teenagers could benefit from hearing.
Kate, I don't have a passport, but I want one for exactly the reasons you mention. It's on my to do list, but other things keep shoving their way above it.
LG – the one behind the Flamingo is right across the street from the Bellagio, but harder to get into because it is a smaller property. My usual property is on the strip just down the road. I don't even stay at the other property, because it is off the strip. I like my usual one because it is actually right on the strip. There is not one hotel I think on the strip that is actually off the elevator and out the front doors as this one it. Others you have to walk a half a mile just to get thru the gaming. I love driving to the Bellagio because the conservatory is right there. I love that room.
Every morning when I stayed at the Bellagio, I started my breakfast with a papaya half filled with mixed berries. I have not been able to convince my husband that he should continue this for me at home. Nor can I convince him to build me a replica of the fountains in my front yard. I do not ask for much. Papaya and fountains, that is all.
Much better, thanks Toni. Youll make a wonderful mom
Dojn't worry Kate I will get to Anton soon enough
Diane…I didn't know you stayed at the Bellagio! What's up with that? Now your really my hero!
RM, I think I came into the blog when you reviewed Jessica's book, so it must have been Jessica's F.B post. Have been here every day since. Found some wonderful friends, and to quote Diane.." sister from another Mother" Love you sis!
I'm really sounding like a prude tonight, but I'm not much into anal sex. To quote a friend of mine ..that's an exit area, not an entrance. I really don't really like it in the sexy scenes I read. Ok..I do sound like a prude.
Kate, I totally agree with you about the passport. There have been last minute trips we have taken, that without having a passport ready, we wouldn't have been abler to go.
So I'm ready for the group hug too…..we are a bunch of classy ladies!! {{{{ hugs}}}}
Ok….do you think the Captcha people are monitoring us………first word was. Scandal……..next. derdeDu. ?
Pat, it cost me a little extra to make sure I got a lakeview room, but it was so worth it. In your room, there is one channel on the tv that plays the same music that is playing outside during the fountain show, so you get the whole experience. My husband put together a slideshow of pictures. Every one is me with a chair pulled up to the window. The only thing that changes is what I am wearing. I LOVE those fountains!
yes, I know I need a passport. its on my todo list. According to the weather report we hit 100degrees today. So I'm an inside person for the next few months. So glad RM is around to keep us entertained!!
So do I ! We went and watched them four times. One time they played Lee Greenwood's Proud to Be An American, and I was standing there with tears running down my face! Unforgettable!
Came home from work to a BBQ ribs ( homemade sauce) potatos o'brian, cole slaw and corn on the cob! He always spoils me when I work on the weekends.
Off to watch Despicible Me.
Have a great nite everyone and I'll pop in later.
I have yet to go to Vegas. Husband doesn't gamble and up until a few yrs ago was afraid to fly. He had to go to Virginia for work so now he will fly.
Anal sex? Yes, it needs alot of prep or its a no go. (so I've heard) .
RM, this blog is more like a family room were everyone comes to be relaxed and comfortable and dicuss what ever comes to mind. While drinking and eating comfy foods.
(((((hugs)))))
Thanks granny! Since it's like family can I have some BBQ
I'm usually not influenced by covers much, except that they are a "code" for what kind of book is inside. But I never buy a book just because there is a hot guy (or girl) on the cover. That's a good way to wind up with a book I don't like. I'm also in the "seen one amazing set of pecs, seen 'em all" camp so I'm obviously not the target audience for these steamy covers.
When I was younger, I was totally embarrassed to buy some racier covers but now that I'm 40, I'm over caring about what anybody else thinks. But, last year, my then 6yo asked me, "Mommy, why do all the books you buy have a half-naked man on the cover"? I told him I didn't know, but it probably had something to do with focus groups, which seemed to confuse him enough to stop the questions. Then for Mother's Day, he announced that he wanted daddy to take him to Barnes & Noble so that he could buy mom a book with a half-naked man on the front. He did, but it was one I already had, boo. (I didn't tell him, though. He was so proud of himself.) Sometimes, the racy covers do create a certain amount of . . . awkwardness.
Dinner is on Facebook! Enjoy!
Geez, an actual bbl conversation and no one lets me know, whats up with that???
Linda you are hysterical
Hey Kiki where have you beeen
Okay, what is BBL? Is this more sex lingo I need to learn?
BTW, now I know why I have never had a FB page, shit is confusing. But, I made one so I could put some faces to some names
Cant get on sometimes. Guess I missed a great bbl conversation! What a bummer.
Sorry I missed it. But I can clear a room! LOL
Hey RM!
Grace, the BBLS's are the women on this blog. They named themselves. You are now one but you have to take yout bra off
Hi KIki … Well I'm calling it a night. Hope everyone has a good rest…..see you all tomorrow.
Good night all……you too Lexie wherever you are!
Good Morning Luci………. :- ). XOXO
LOL Grace, dont listen to him, we really dont make you take your bra off! LOL Only if you want to.
Well, MMM might make you…..haha
Nice to see the old RM around. Missed you, Romance man! I know I know.
Stilll missed you though.
Hey Pat, next time let me know when you all get space to have a talk!
Looks like a good one!! Sorry missed you all!!
It is hard to get us all on at one time. I've been close to non existent, but I let my hair down today
RM, any idea when the new blog is going?
This is crazy hard.
Toni, how on earth did you all have that conversation?
Captcha hates me! haha
I have no idea what happened. Just did. Probably won't happen again for a long time. Right time, right place and I actually had something to say
haha You are right, toni!
Looks like everyone had lots good to say.
Kiki, not sure it is turning out to be harder than expected hopefully soon
Did you notice RM got quiet when I brought up condoms and lube. Chat, chat, chat then crickets chirping. Especially when talk of anal sex came up. I can't wait for his take on it. He did say he would do a post about it. Oh this should be good!
We did get off topic yet again. If I ever had to go back to something that was said before in prior discussions, I'd be totally lost. We do that all the time.
Great blog topic RM! I am a total coverwhore, but, I always read the blurb. I have learned after reviewing many books, that you can't judge a book JUST by the hot cover. Example: The last cover listed that you love was the worst book in my opinion of the series. I won't go into the why but it was a huge disappointment for me after reading the entire series. What I hate the most about certain erotica covers/blurbs is how many will lead you to believe the story will be one way and then you get a total mind fuck where it ends up being something different. Like you are expecting a menage but you are NOT expecting any f/f action. I want to know up front what I'm getting and f/f does nothing for me. I am an all cock gal.
LOLOL Sure it wasnt you , Toni! LOLOL
Ooohhhh I'm liking Amy!
HOLY SHIT! I take a 24-hour hiatus and the whole blog explodes! I have read all of the pages and now I have no idea which comment to add my 2 cents to. I will channel my inner Nancy and spill.
First, the headache I had yesterday got better. Thank you for all of the good wishes yesterday.
On topic: I agree with, well, several people. A hot cover is not a auto-buy. There has to be a combination of a good cover, good blurb on the back, an indication that the story will be one I have an interest in, etc. When I am looking for an ebook especially, I can tell which ones to buy, because I will read about several books, leave the site, and books that interest me will "come back" in my head and talk to me. Weird I know.
@ RM – I think your willingness to put yourself out there – unvarnished, not perfect, trying to get through, means that we can all relate. There are other blog sites, but sometimes a reader can be made to feel they must be on their best behaviour. No cussing, no anal sex discussions, no boobs talks (newbies, if you want a good past blog to read, try BOOBS). The way you talk sets the tone – we all can relax and cuss like the sailor you used to be, discuss sex and everything else (laundry!) without judgement, and feel we can be appreciated. In a ever expanding internet world, that's rare. So RM, keep it up!
You know I kinda feel bad for RM sometimes. I swear to God, one day Ruthie Knox said he should start a blog about romance novels. He probably said to Lexie, "Look I'm surrounded by women. I live in an estrogen ocean. It's naked Barbies as far as the eye can see around here. I have nightmares of G I Joe on a three day pass!" He started up the blog, thinking he could talk to other males and, well, lie those huge lies he talks about.
Poor bugger never knew what hit him. But, I am awfully glad he did. *SQUISHES*
Hi Amy!
RM, I am sure it is.
Everything Lily said…..
Anal sex? No thank you. To each their own, though! That is all.
Thanks for the welcome Toni and Kiki. I figured I tweet up RM's blog enough to my fellow friends and bloggers so I should finally make an appearance.
I love RM until he talks about his BBQ friends but that's an entirely different story we don't need to visit while discussing smut covers.
I must admit, covers do influence me even though I know they shouldn't. I occasionally try and get the hubs opinion on a scene, and usually get the glazed over half listening look as he tries to tune me out.
I got my cover and before I even had to ASK him to look, whoooommmmmmmm–he was leaning over the screen wanting to know all the deets.
Him-Whose that?
Me-Ginger.
Him- Well okay, but who is she?
Me-Um, book cover model?
Him- Is she one of your online friends.
Me-NO. Wanna hear about this new scene?
Him-Isn't Two and a Half Men coming on? Where's the remote?
*sigh*
Amy, smut covers or anal sex? LOL
You an author, Amy?
Lulu, Hi, hows it going?
Kiki- No, not an author. A cock lover and book reviewer for a romance blog.
Hi KikI! There you are. Today Captcha was good to me.
BBL stands for Braless Bawdy Ladies. You welcome to join, can even wear a bra if you want, but must be bawdy!
Lily- so glad you feel better. I used to get those headaches, I know what you're going through. What a waste of time!thats what I always thought about those stupid headaches.
I'm off to bed, must work tomorrow.
We didn't hear from MMM all weekend. Must be another marathon house remodel going on. Hope he got a blowjob. Or at least some mindblowing sex!!!
Nite all
No wonder I like Amy. We are sisters at heart!
Amy, my kind of gal!
Hey LG, Captcha is not
good to me today……..
Hoping the same for MMM….
Have a good work week, Lady G.
Nite!
Good nite LG!
We can see D.Dye's hubby buys for the cover *snicker*, heck even I want to know the title so I can go look at her.
Hehehe – Amy, don't you wish sometimes in reviews you could actually put cock and lover in it – together. If I did, it would be edited right out. Bummer. I've even had a few I wanted to put in a – What the fuck, but again…I would have been shot down.
Glad to hear you are on the mends Lily – get to that 100% mark
OMG Grace you are just too damn cute! I think you will fit right in with the rest of us babes!!
Kermie/Lily–just read your comment and damn, girl! It's good to have you back! Hope you're feeling better. I've really enjoyed today's blog and comments–lots of new names and that's always fun. Please realize, you guys are my social therapy. I live in a rural area, I write seven days a week and very rarely see other people. My entire life is spent with my imaginary friends, but you guys are even better!
Gotta finish one last scene I'm working on, and then I"m outta the office for the night. Take care all.
@MyLilyPad aka Kermit. Woman, I feel so honored and got a warm and fuzzy. That's the first time I've ever been channeled and I'm having a moment.
"I will channel my inner Nancy and spill."
Oh, I thought BBL meant big breasted ladies… Yes, I'm interested in the whole cover thing. I do believe they sell books, and give a steaminess hint for the book. I pretty much got over what people think about what i'm reading. if someone says anything to me I go into a scintillating discussion on the power and money involved in the romance industry. til their eyes glaze over. my sons complain about the books and the covers must have an impact on them, given that they don't go any further. that said, they love to help me with my battle scenes, will read them to determine whether a reader would find them realistic.
Argghh!! out of touch for two days and go to the new post and there are already 184 comments
Another overnight getaway tomorrow…so don't know how I'll ever catch up. (waves hi and goes off to read post)
I didn't think a cover would influence my decision to buy a book. Then I realized that I'm a big fat liar.
Well at least Mary you know the truth…liar, liar panties on fire!
Good Morning BBL's and The Testosteronely Challenged LOL Well it looks like you were all busy thats good as i will need stuff to keep me sane tonight at work hope Everyone has a Good Day/Night xx
Good Morning Luci!!! Happy Monday all.
Good morning crazy people. Off to work will check in later.
Good morning everyone! I've been a very recently drafted lurker (thanks to Sheri ^ ^ and I've already read just about every RM blog post) and I can I just say RM you come up with some of the most interesting blog subjects, they just make my morning
Personally I wouldn't care if I was buying The Big Penis Book I'll slid it onto the counter without a care in the world, IMO the wonderful people behind the cashiers swipe books all day long I really don't think they care if I'm buying a smutty book or not, but in the case of the Big Penis Book I think it would just be funny to see if they had any reaction at all. If I myself was said cashier I'd probably just spend all day making up little improbable stories about each person based solely on the books they bought.
As for book covers, for me they DEFINITELY make an impact, but not on whether or not I'm going to buy them. I usually use the book covers just to tell me what kind of book I'm getting into. Erotica novels usually have very similar covers so I can just tell from the pictures which ones I should get haha But as far as regular romance novels go usually I don't go just by the pictures because a book can have an awesome cover but still be a crappy book. But I'm a relatively simple person so I'd pick up Fifty Shades of Gray without knowing what the book was about just because I happen to like the color scheme of the cover. It's alllllll about the colors, that's how I ended up picking up Unicorns vs Zombies, I couldn't resist the rainbows. On the other hand I'm actually really big into cover art. I'm a huge fan of the artist John Jude Palencar, who has done cover art for thousands of books (ie Eragon, the Seven Waters series, LOTR, ect) so its gotten to the point where if I want to pick up a new sci-fi book I'll simply find a book that has his art on it and 9 times out of 10 I end up loving it. So as far as cover art goes I do sometimes judge a book by its cover, and its worked so far
but i only really do that to sci-fi/fantasy/fiction novels, not really romance or erotica.
Hey Emmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmily and welcome. Glad you posted. I just want you to know that this "that's how I ended up picking up Unicorns vs Zombies, I couldn't resist the rainbows" officially makes you weird and I dig that about you.
Emmmmmmily…does it matter if I don't count the ms? Anyway, you brought up a really good point: Science Fiction covers. Any of you girls of a certain age (Hi Pat and Nancy!) remember the old s/f book covers? Half naked women with BIG boobs, usually falling out of a tiny little spacesuit or, if they were aliens on some prehistoric planet, they were wearing animal skins that covered even less.I'm talking pulp fiction from the early 60s–Heinlein's were particularly graphic as I recall, but even if the author was a woman (generally writing under a male pseudonym) they got the busty covers because the market was aimed almost exclusively at young men.
Probably why I was so self-conscious of my flat chest! LOL…I loved s/f and was reading the books when I was just a kid. G'morning, RM. Hope everyone has a really great day. I'll be in the writing cave if anyone needs me.
Need more coffee…
Just gotta' weigh in on this one. You just wrote this yesterday, RM, and there are already 195 comments on Monday morning! I'll apologize right now because I just don't have time to read them all, as much as I would like to.
I am also influenced by a book cover, but it is usually because I want it to at least somewhat represent the story. I'll admit I can drool over some impressive abs, Vs, scenarios (e.g., the yummy Lace & Leather cover), etc. with the best of readers and sometimes am totally grabbed by a smoking hot cover. However, I also get pretty freaking irritated when the cover misrepresents the story, regardless of how hot it may be. Since getting my e-reader, though, I am no longer concerned about purchasing a naughty cover- everything is done online. My husband will frequently make comments about the covers- usually in relation to how much/what kind of sex should be in the book LOL, so I know HE'S obviously influenced!
All I'm saying is good Monday morning to everyone…otherwise I''ll be late for an appointment. Catch you later….
OMG, Kate! Your comment immediately reminded me of the cover for Anne McCaffrey's Restoree, although when I went back to look she at least has a lab coat on.
Happy Monday, RM! Unless it's a book or author I already know and love, covers definitely influence me. They're what make me pull the book off the shelf long enough to read the blurb and maybe a few pages. Right now, I think the best covers are going to YA. Every single one is absolutely beautiful.
*waves like a loon* Hello RM and Kate D! Thanks for the welcome
RM: I'm glad I get the official stamp of weird here too, I don't know what I'd do without it…be normal I suppose; which would be terrible o.O And yay for digs, WOOT!! I"M not 100% sure how to (or if we even can) post links in the comments so I've put a link to a picture of the Unicorns vs Zombies cover at the bottom of this post; so that everyone else can enjoy the rainbows. But beware, this cover is strewn with carnage of the colorful variety of course.
Miss Kate D: I just realizes that putting a colon after the D in your name makes a sad face, which I had not intention of doing, so here's a happy face to equalize it
And the m's don't really count for anything, I just happened to stick my finger to my m key this morning haha You are right about those old sci-fi, maybe they just wanted to compliment the bodice-ripper covers that were on the romance novels at that time? Another really amazing artist Luis Royo does sci-fi covers too and he draws some sexxxxxxxxxy ladies like on the old sci-fi covers. Though mostly of the dark and gothic variety. And I can sympathize without Miss Katie D, there are absolutely no D's in my chest size, flat as a board. Though all of my self-consciousness came from the Playboy's my dad would leave lying around the house, the A cups are sadly underrepresented in that magazine.

I don't really care what the book cover looks like. The only time I pay attention is if I see that there are 3 people on the cover. Then I find out if it is a menage book (usually it is) because I don't read menage books. If it has a BDSM cover I won't buy it because I don't read BDSM either. Other than that I don't care what the cover looks like. And I don't hide it. I'll take it everywhere I go & read it in public. I don't care what other people think at all. I have a Kindle but I prefer to read real books. I don't get embarrassed in stores. I will buy whatever I need. One day my husband was going to Walmart to get something & I asked him to pick me up a book (a historical romance) I had been wanting. He said he'd rather buy me tampons than a romance novel because the cashier would know the tampons were not for him. But she might think he was gonna read the book. I told him I had plenty of tampons & only needed the book. Bless his heart. He got it for me but he wasn't happy about it.
I must confess, I'm the chicken shit in the house. I'll own it. Back when renting a movie actually meant DRIVING to the video store the hubs would put in a requests for 'special' movie night. With 5 children we didn't get 'special' nights all too often. Even had a chain on our door where the suckers would think dad was hoarding (LOL he was) the M & M's and try to bust in late at night. (another story entirely)
Anyhow, I wait until my buddy is behind the counter. Wait some more until the store is clear then give her the heads up to buzz me in quickly. Being a bashful sort, I wouldn't even take time to read the things or even look at the covers.
This was a full on snatch two and haul ass. Of course I hear the buzzer and some older bald man came cruising in to which I went cruising right out.
Door slipped, slammed shut, place was suddenly now packed and I prayed for death.
Yes, that bad. Buddy behind the counter was no damn help as she was laughing to0 hard and pointing at my obvious distress. Then all attention was on the red lady trying to rent 'special' movies.
After that, I told the hubs it was Zalman King or nothing. Red Shoe Diaries would have to float his boat too, else he go get his own damn movies.
Older and past that stage…a little. LOL
Is there a way to bypass that captcha thing? It took me about 15 times to get through it. And that last one was a lucky guess.

WHOOPS. Can ya delete one. *sowwy*
Can back to screen and it said NOT posted. So tried again.
Emmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmily, did you see the double rainbow video?
Holy Cow Emmmmily that is some FU stuff. Now I need a pretty glittery unicorn to erase the carnage. LOL My mind is still reeling with all there is to take in. Every time I look at it I see something new. It's like a train wreck you can't look away.
I just seen this on RT Book Reviews. I know some may be interested in the read and some may not. I found it very interesting. We have kinda talked about this in the past.
http://www.rtbookreviews.com/rt-daily-blog/author-eden-bradley-busts-myths-surrounding-bdsm
I just looked at Emmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmily's link and she is officially the weirdest one of us.
OhmyGod RM have I? *sniffles* It was so bright and so *dramatic wail* SOOO VIVID!! T_T I believe I am responsible for 300 vewis out of the 23,000,000,000 on the "Double Rainbow Song video (if you haven't heard it its terrible catchy, listen to it at your own risk) I still don't know what as double rainbow means. I mean I was excited too but I didn't have a mangasm in the middle of the woods over it like the guy in the video. Then again he did get a commercial out of it haha How do you feel about double rainbows RM?
And yes, I am super weird but it was a great book
Here is a soothing-rainbow-unicorn-carnage-eraser for Toni ^_^ http://i642.photobucket.com/albums/uu141/SHOOTME68/unicorns-rainbow.jpg
@ Toni – . I hope to God when my son is old enough for the sex conversations that we can communicate about sex as well as you have with your son. He is 5 on Sat, so I figure I have about, oh, a year before I need to begin?? Sexual body parts, where babies come from, etc.
Confession: I don't have a passport, either. *ducks from flying objects* In my defence, I HAD a passport for my backpacking trip thru the South Pacific 15 years ago. I went by myself for a year. After that I only traveled to the States, and Canadians didn't need one then. Now we do. So, like LG, it's on the to do list, but I got married, had a baby, bought a house, etc. Definitely need to get one.
Keep in mind, the BBL (Braless Bawdy Ladies) named themselves. RM had nothing to do with it. In fact, there have been times when we have wandered off with the blog on various topics.
No, southerngirl, cannot get out of the CAPCHA thing yet. RM is working on it. It has been a bane on the BBL since the beginning. The good news, tho, is that you can swear at it like the rest of us.
Oh thank you Emmmmmmmmmmily – I feel so much better. There is now way I'm watching a video with a catchy tune. They glob to me and don't let go.
Kermit – My advice for boys would be love em lots, instill a bit of fear in them and open communication. I'm telling you the funniest for me is when I would absolutely blow my top and the yes Ma'am's started to fly. I was never a stickler for ma'am – heck I never even brought it up, but they knew when I got THAT look, they backed way up and started to show me respect again. *sigh* those were the days.
I was going to say reupping your passport is easy, then I realized you are from Canada. I know in the US, once you got it, it was a bit easier to reissue. Though the marriage name change is a bit of a hassle. So never mind ignore me. Shutting up now.
Thanks! I used every swear word I know several times & I think I invented some new ones.
And to just add my 2 cents about FIFTY SHADES OF GRAY for any of yall that are hesitating to read it. I read very little erotic romance and no "hardcore" BDSM. And with the exception of one scene that made me cringe & almost stop reading, the series is pretty vanilla. I have contemp romantic suspense books on my bookshelf that are more explicit than FSOG. As far as the BDSM goes, it's more talk than action. It is a wonderful emotional roller coaster ride of a romance. It's not the best writing. The author repeats a few things over & over but to me it's very much worth reading. I would ignore all the mommy porn talk.
Thanks, southerngirl. I am still on the fence about Fifty Shades. If the writing is not great, that may mean it goes WAY back on the list. Or not at all. There are such good writers that I have recs from the other BBLs, that I figure if its not great, why bother??
Kermie- that's exactly how I feel! There are just so many great writers today, why even bother with a book just because it's gotten notariety? I haven't read them either. However, the biggest reason I haven't, besides the many comments I've heard about the quality of writing, is because I can't do a book that isn't complete. Having to read and purchase 3 books before an HEA just isn't for me LOL! While that premise works in moviedom (think Star Wars, Terminator, etc.), I think it's just a gimmick and doesn't work for me. ToEachHisOwn applies here, I guess!
These posts are a balm to my brain after today! Did I mention I teach elementary school….aka I'm the Conductor of the Crazy Train? Well, today on the playground, some little boy started calling this other boy a "peen."
I was like, "what the hell is this? How do I punish a kid when I don't even know what he's saying but from the sounds of it and his facial expressions, it can't be good!"
No worries, he told me straight out. Mrs. S, I called X a "peen" because he is acting like a penis. My mom says that to my dad all the time when he acts up."
O_o
I've read them and I must say I feel sorry for the "mommy porn" women who think they are incredible. They have no clue what a great writer is if they believe the 50 Shades trilogy is it, because it's NOT! There were very little editing changes from the Twilight fanfic version to the 50 Shades version. It baffles me that such a poorly written book has made it so big.
I still can't wrap my head around it going from Twilight fanfic to mommy porn w/BDSM undertones. Just don't get it.
I guess saying peen is better then calling him a peckerhead or something of that nature!
Very true, Toni.
I read Shades of Grey and thought, "eh." It put me off since the main guy is basically a stalker with psychotic tendencies…at least it seemed to me. If he had done some of those things to me (like followed me, spied on me, had my secret information), I would have started hacking off appendages. Or something. Ok, I probably would have just run the opposite way, but I would have done it with flair
LindaM's post reminded me of something my 7 y.o. son likes to say. He doesn't ask abut the covers, he just makes up his own titles: 'The Man Who Wouldn't Button His Shirt' is his favorite, LOL.
@Grace. I could never be a good teacher. If that child had told me that, I would be on the ground LOL. Sooo difficult to discipline a kid when you find it hysterical!
Hi everyone. HI LUCI!!!! How's Malta. Yes, its nighttime there. Bet it cooler than Vegas today. 98degrees and sunny. Blazing sunny! Just got home from crazy day at work; the crazies were all out today.
I did remember about the book cover — I've bought several bad westerns just because they had horses on the front of them! Now I read the first few pages, try to find out what the book is about. I accidentally bought a religious book recently b/c of a horse on the cover!
It is so much fun to see new people coming out and letting themselves be known!!! I hope that RM has a page counter on his site to see how many views he is getting. Then he will have to subtract all of us the view the page, over and over and over and over
I'm checking out for awhile, need to recoop some energy after dealing with the crazies. See ya Later!!
Oh, New Folks ***** hints to get through captcha as I have found ****** if I get an "UNable TO Post" comment back; I open a new browser page…seems tohelp if I go to the last page of the blog and try my comment there. It also seems tohelp if I change my comment somewhat. Not the whole text, but I'll add a sentence or two..yesterday i put in the word orgasm and the comment wouldn't post, so I changed that word to say something different w/ the same meaning.
Maybe it is just coincidence…but I don't believe in coincidence
Well, enjoy your blazing sun LG. It's been fricking cold here in N.C!!!! The heat even came on. Although a lot of people are having snow, so I'll take the low temps!
I'll be leaving momentarily to make dinner..(my turn) and we're having ham, and home made macaroni and cheese! I maintained my wt. for another week at WW, so I'm cheating tonight…whoopee !
Be back….good night Luci…in case your going to bed!!! Did your day get better?
RM's been hiding today…scuse me Working…… :- )

Made me Giggle i think it should be Mandatory for most of the Teenage Boys i see Walking around here LOL
Speaking of religious books… I entered a contest once for a book called GIVE THE LADY A RIDE & I won. It was a Christian romance. I didn't realize it until after I started reading it. I never in a million years would've thought it would be a religious book. I was expecting some hot cowboy lovin.
Oh, Grace. I needed that. Peen? How do you take that with a straight face? And you guys have been busy today. I've been offline for most of it. Need to get back to work after I fix some dinner, but wanted to check in and say hi.
Sheesh…damn Captcha , ate my post agin! Hi Kate!!!!!!
Where are you RM!!!! Haven't seen MMM for days, Scarlets missing, I know Diane's busy, and Gina!!!!! I hope she's writing her Tuesday snippet. She hasn't been here! LG left a while ago……talking to myself again…..
hey pat, havent seen mmm
Do sexy covers matter? Am I that visually shallow that I will base my next read on what the covers look like? You bet your ass I am. After pretending I'm heading for the new mysteries, but making a hard right for the romance section, almost tripping over the older lady checking out the half naked men on the historicals, (WTF, seems like she's always there) I'm ready to make my selection. As I work my way down to the new releases, I briefly give the lady a "Rock On" nod and start looking at the covers. Reading is a guilty pleasure for me and I'm not there to pick a book that has a couple in kakis and capri pants holding hands gazing at the river. I not only want a sexy cover, I want them practically "Doing it" But, that's just me. As far as the covers for the Fifty Shades trilogy, which I read and liked, the author stated once that the reason the covers were different that other romance covers was that she didn't want the reader to be embarrassed to read them in public. But that was before the whole world knew what the tie was for. Blows the fuck out of that theory. Anyway, now I have a kindle and can read whatever I want whenever I want which makes the wait at the dentist's office a lot more toterable.
When you are at amazon checking out the sanitizer you should click on the image to enlarge – there are other options including "I <3 my penis" sanitizer.
Or..
Cleaner than Shit
Smack My Germ Bitch
Wait — Was that Slutty?
You Nasty
Good catch Marc. I missed the other brands!
Oh, Heidi, you have style in your post. I like it. I can see that older lady you mentioned (damn, is she in every bookstore?). Are you a writer? We have several here….
Mylilypad aka Kermit, i do think that lady gets around. LOL I am an unpublished amateur, but thanks for asking, it made my day:)
RM… a very late comment, but re. covers… In the past I wouldn't buy books with "bodice ripper" type covers..I wouldn't read those out in public, and in general thought they did a huge disservice to the stories inside.
One of the reasons I LOVE ebooks is that no one knows what I am reading. I remember thinking they were crazy when one dedicated ereader mentioned having the cover of the book you were reading show even when the thing was turned off as a feature. That alone would make me not buy that one.
Buying a book for its cover….Guilty…the only cover that has lured me in was Jaci Burtons "The Perfect Play", very hot cover and the sports angle also attracted me. It took me a while to break down and buy it, especially at $10 and it's contemporary….
Mostly I buy books now because I love the author or trust the people who recommend a book.
Great Post…. looking forward to the anal blog, and still waiting for the gay wolf sex review…
I also know why Remy would buy the F/M/F cover book and doesn't care for gay wolf sex…. the same reason I would do the reverse…..I need a penis in my stories…and the more the merrier so far as penises go , altho I do want a woman in the mix , preferably as the center or at least an equal partner… for Remy its the more pussies the merrier…
Blow Job !!
I love Maya Banks' Sweet series and I'm not ashamed to buy them. I also love Lorelei James' books.
I won't be bothered with 50 shades of Grey though, as I expect it'd be lame by comparison; and I understand it started as Twilight Fanfic and I'm told it's not well written. That always bothers me.
